This study was conducted as part of the Region of Halton’s (Ontario, Canada) on-going water efficiency initiative to determine the amount of water saved following the installation of the HydroClean toilet fill valve in a 159-unit condominium complex. Bill Gauley, Veritec Consulting and the developer of the de facto toilet performance standards that form the basis of the USEPAs WaterSense program, led the study.

Prepared By Peter W. Mayer, William B. DeOreo, Erin Towler, Leslie Martien, and David M. Lewis
Submitted to the Tampa Water Department and the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

The Weak Link of Water Conservation
By John Koeller, P.E.
Summary:
The study was done to explore the flapper as an underestimated source of leakage and inefficiency. Specifically, it quantifies leaking due to flapper warping and corrosion. It also provides information regarding the negative effects of pairing a toilet with the incorrect after market replacement flapper.
Prepared for Tampa Bay Water in cooperation with Southwest Florida Water Management District
Summary:
Literature designed to provide consumers with the awareness that replacing a toilet flapper with the incorrect replacement flapper can lead to large amounts of waste. Included are verifications of the the fact that this inefficiency affects even low-flush toilets and a list of proper flapper replacements for a large number of makes and models of toilets.
