Dual Flush Converters FAQs

There are five minimum requirements for the HydroRight to work properly in your tank:

  1. Newer style fill valve (not the old ball system where there is a ball floating on the water in your tank). If you do need a newer style fill valve, we suggest the HydroClean Toilet Fill Valve, Model 660.
  2. You must have a round overflow tube.
  3. The overflow tube must have a height of 6” from base to top.
  4. Your flush valve opening must be 2 – 2 ½”. If you have a 3” flush valve opening, this product will not work with your current system.
  5. You must have a 10” clearance in your tank from bottom to top.

No, the toilet must have an overflow tube. If your current system does not, it’s possible you can replace what is currently used as the overflow tube/flush valve with what’s called a “Douglas” style overflow tube/flush valve, as long as the opening on your current flush valve is no greater than 2 ½ inches.

Unfortunately, the HydroRight unit will not work with a 3″ flush valve opening and there are no adjustments that can be made for it to work.

The HydroRight unit may work with your current ball system. There are two things you can run into to make it necessary to get the HydroClean Fill Valve to replace the ball system.

  1. The HydroRight unit and the ball system may not both fit inside the tank. If that’s not an issue, than it may be that the ball system won’t give a quick enough fill rate in order to flush with less water with the HydroRight.
  2. If it does give a quick enough fill rate, once you have the HydroRight unit installed, than there’s no need to replace the ball system with a HydroClean.
  3. If you run into a problem with either of the above, then you will have to replace the ball system with the HydroClean Toilet Fill Valve.

Lower the blue float until it is all the way down.

  1. Verify the quick flush button is being pressed all the way in to a positive stop.
  2. The water level in the tank may not be high enough. Raise the water level by pushing down the Fill Valve Float until the water goes to the top of the overflow tube. Press the quick flush to see if this solved the problem (Note: If this works, you will need to adjust the fill valve to allow more water into the tank.) If this does not work.
  3. Disconnect the white control box from the button (with the blue quick release) and then unscrew the button. Put these two pieces back together, outside of the toilet, and stretch the blue cable as straight out in front of you as you can.
  4. Try the quick flush now. If this works, then you can reinstall the white gear box and button onto the tank Turn the housing of the unit in the opposite direction that the blue cable is coming out of the unit.
  5. Each time, turn slightly and try the quick flush. What is happening in there is a “kink” inside the cable which needs to be worked out.

It can’t be used unless it is changed to have the Douglas style overflow tube/flush valve and if the flush valve opening measures 2 1/2 “ or less.

Lower the blue float until it is all the way down.

  1. Verify the quick flush button is being pressed all the way in to a positive stop.
  2. The water level in the tank may not be high enough. Raise the water level by pushing down the Fill Valve Float until the water goes to the top of the overflow tube.
  3. Press the quick flush to see if this solved the problem (Note: If this works, you will need to adjust the fill valve to allow more water into the tank.) Please verify that the overflow tube is at least 7″ in height, the cylinder alone, to ensure enough water is in the tank, to flush with the smaller amount that we are trying to flush with on the quick flush.
  4. There are jets underneath the rim of the toilet bowl and normally a main jet (about the size of a nickel) inside the bowl. If these jets get limed up it will affect the flush power. Cleaning these jets out will improve the performance and efficiency of the toilet. A coat hanger wire can be bent at a 90 degree angle to poke into each of the jets.
  1. Shut off the water and remove the entire unit.
  2. Disconnect the upper housing from the base and remove cam adjuster and slide unit down overflow tube.
  3. Verify the Blue dome is making good contact (all the way around and not only hitting in one spot). Press down with 2 fingers on the upper edge of the base.
  4. Add cam adjuster to fill space on the front or back of overflow tube. If the Zip tie is too tight, cut it off and add new zip tie (provided on the instruction sheet).
  5. Disregard the cam adjuster if there is not space. Tighten the zip tie and reassemble upper housing.

Test by shutting off water while tank is full. Do not flush for 30 minutes. Check water level. If water level drops, repeat the step above.
